Naked yet Clothed

Naked yet Clothed, an experimental image making project, captures emotions arising from rejection in interpersonal relationships. Using an anonymous survey of 100 participants, varied emotional experiences were gathered. Three categories emerged: Lovers to Strangers with a Pro-Social response to mutual rejection, Conditional relationships with withdrawal reaction from uncertain rejection, and Unrequited relationships with an antagonistic reaction to uncertain rejection. Descriptors and indicators inspired image creation, overlaid with interpretive wording from relationship quotes. The third and final image reflects the emotional journey and its lasting effects, where the stitching symbolizes healing.

Thesis Statement:

Naked yet Clothed explores how rejection within interpersonal relationships can affect outlooks on expressing and experiencing love and vulnerability. Images are made by printing, layering, distorting, then scanning different fabrics.

Research Questions:

Question 1:
How can people react differently to rejection in different dynamics?

Question 2:
Are there commonalities in the reaction to rejection in the same relationship type?

Question 3:
How can rejection impact the way emotions are shown and processed?
